         THE HISTORY OF BOROBUDUR TEMPLE

     Borobudur Temple is a temple the biggest second after Ankor Wat Temple in Kamboja.Borobudur Temple built arround the year 800 before Christ.Borobudur built by Buddhist Mahayana followers during Syailendra Dynasty goverment.The temple built during the glory of the Syailendra Dynasty.The founder of the Borobudur Temple,Samaratungga King from Syailendra Dynasty .The possibility of this temple built around then year 824 AD and finished arround 900 M during Pramudawardhani queen's reign princess Samaratungga.While architects are helping built this temple for hereditary stories named Gunadharma.The word "Borobudur" itself based on the first written evidence written by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles , Governor -general of Britain Jaya in Java, who gave the name of the temple.There is no written residence that parents who have this name "Borobudur Temple".Only on of the oldest documents which shows the existence of this temple book of Negarakretagama written by Mpu in 1365 Prapanca the book written that this temple used as a place to Buddhist meditation.Therefore, according to the meaning  of the name borobudur , then this place since old time used as a place of Buddhist worship.This temple for centuries no longer used .So ,because of vulcanic eruption most of the Borobudur buildings are vulcanic soils.Moreover the building is also covered with various trees and shrubs since old time.Then this building began to be forgetten in Islamic time came to Indonesia around the 15th century .

           In the year of 1814, if Inggris occupied Indonesia.Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles hear about discovery of the archeological objects in Bumisegoro village , Magelang district .Because great interest in Java history ,and then immediately ordered Raffles HC Cornelius , a Dutch engineer ,to investigate location of this invention in the form of a hill filled with shrubs.Cornelius assisted by around 200 people dropped trees and remove scrub covering giant building.Because building already fragile and can collapse ,then report to Cornelius the discovery of Raffles contain some picture .Since his discovery, is Raffles named a man who started the renovation Borobudur Temple and got world attention.

        In the year of 1835, all over temple area ha been excavated.This temple held again in Dutch Colonial era.After Indonesian independence in the year of 1956 Indonesian goverment ask for help UNESCO to check Borobudur damage .So , in the year of 1963 from the official of the Indonesian goverment's decision to carrying out  the restoration of the Borobudur Temple by UNESCO, however restored just really start happening at the date of August 10, 1973.New renovation process finished in the year of 1984.Since 1991, Borobudur was appointed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
